Pelvic floor muscles rehabilitation unit
Pelvic floor muscles are the layer of muscles that support the pelvic organs, such as the bladder, bowel, and uterus. The pelvic floor muscles have holes for passages of urethra and anus in men; and passages of the urethra, vagina, and anus in women. They prevent the uncontrolled release of feces and urine. They are also important for Sexual function in both men and women and also Support the baby during pregnancy and during delivery, they work with the abdominal and back muscles to stabilize the spine.
Pelvic floor muscles dysfunction may be due to weakness or tightness
Causes of weakness of PFM is
- Repeated pregnancy and child birth
- Menopause (reduced estrogen cause weakness of skeletal muscle)
- Constipation
- pelvic surgery and radiotherapy
- Heavy lifting and high amplitude resisted exercises
- Age
- neurological disorders like Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis (MS)

Treatment
Physiotherapy started with evaluation and build up rehabilitation program including
- Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation(NMES)
- Trans-Electrical Nerve Stimulation(TENS)
- Interferential Current Therapy (IFC)
